That said, I'm hoping someone in this forum has had a similar experience and knows the fix. So it appears that the issue is with Word and not Dropbox. Same thing - a zero byte file appears and Word is locked for 20 seconds until the true size of the file appears in Finder. Worth noting that I can duplicate these issues, confined to MS Word and none of the other Office apps, when saving files to iCloud. This does NOT happen when writing over an existing file. In other words, save a new Word file to Dropbox, lose functional access to Word for as long as 20 seconds. During that time, even though the status on the Dropbox app says the file is synched, Finder shows a zero byte Word file, where the size doesn't update to the correct value until Word itself unfreezes. Here's the issue: if I save a brand new MS Word file to a Dropbox folder, the Dropbox app in the menu bar will show me that the file is synched within seconds, but Word itself will freeze (i.e., spinning beachball) for a period of 15 seconds to 20 seconds. The problem I am describing here started, I believe, after upgrading to macOS Monterey in October 2021. I use the Dropbox app with Finder integration on my MacBook Pro (13", 2020, 2.3 GHz quad-core i7, 32 GB LPDDR4X) running Monterey 12.2.1.
